Description
These classic Southern-style spritz cookies offer a delicate, melt-in-your-mouth texture with a hint of almond and vanilla. Perfect for holiday gifting, these buttery treats are easily shaped with a cookie press for a professional and festive look.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare ungreased, cool cookie sheets.
- In a large bowl or stand mixer, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar on high speed until pale and fluffy, about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla and almond extracts.
- Turn the mixer to low speed and gradually add the flour and salt, mixing just until the white streaks disappear.
- Load the dough into a cookie press fitted with your desired holiday disk and press shapes onto the ungreased sheets about one inch apart.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until set and the bottom edges are barely golden brown, then let rest on the pan for 5 minutes before moving to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For the best results, ensure your cookie sheets are completely cool and ungreased before pressing the dough, as this helps the shapes adhere and maintain their detail. If the dough becomes too soft, chill the baking sheet for a few minutes to ensure the cookies hold their intricate patterns during the baking process.
