Description

These vibrant Matcha Cookies combine the nutty depth of browned butter with the earthy elegance of premium green tea. Studded with creamy white chocolate chips, they offer a sophisticated balance of flavors and a perfectly chewy texture that is both modern and timeless.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 tablespoons culinary grade matcha powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Heat unsalted butter in a small saucepan over medium heat until it melts, foams, and turns a golden amber color with a nutty aroma; pour into a heat-proof bowl and cool to room temperature.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and sifted matcha powder until the color is uniform.
  3. Cream the cooled brown butter with the granulated sugar and light brown sugar in a large bowl until thoroughly combined.
  4. Whisk in the room temperature eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, beating for about one minute until the mixture is pale and creamy.
  5. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula until a vibrant green dough forms, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Stir in the white chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  7. Cover and refrigerate the dough for at least one hour, or up to 24 hours, to allow the flavors to deepen.
  8. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  9. Scoop the dough into three-tablespoon balls and place them on the prepared sheets, leaving two inches of space between each.
  10. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the edges are set but the centers remain soft; cool on the pan for 10 minutes before moving to a wire rack.

Notes

For the most professional results, always sift your matcha powder to prevent bitter clumps and ensure a consistent green hue throughout the cookie. If you prefer a more intense tea flavor, choose a ceremonial grade matcha, though culinary grade is specifically balanced for the high temperatures of baking.
